I’ve been a full-time food columnist since 1996 – yep, that’s a long time.
Since then I’ve worked at CHCH TV as a culinary reporter, written for a few newspapers, several magazines and authored a few books. I was born to obsessively care about where my food comes from so it didn’t take long before I crossed over from food writer to culinary activist. I founded a local food organization in Niagara that connected consumers to the best source of food. It’s called the Niagara Culinary Trail, have you heard of it?
I spend a lot of time on the road, reporting on food, wine and destinations mostly across Ontario and also around the world. If you read anything here on my site that you’d like to buy (or perhaps you’d like to hire me to write something else), by all means, send me an email.
Now about my cookbooks. A last count there were three. All three are medal winners and Canadian best sellers. My first, Niagara Cooks, from farm to table won the Best Local Food Cookbook in Canada by Gourmand World Cookbook Awards and then went on to win Silver Medal for Best Local Food Cookbook in the World. I’m pretty proud of that.
I’m also proud of my other books, Niagara Cooks, a seasonal attitude and The Ontario Table, the best food from across the province. All of my books are about being reconnected with our most trusted, safest, freshest, best quality and most dependable source of food – that which grows in our own back yard.
I’ve also contributed many delicious recipes and the story on Icewine and Food to Icewine, extreme winemaking authored by two of my most admired colleagues, Karl Kaiser and Donald Ziraldo.
And before I leave the shameless self promotion, I have won some awards for my work – in 2009 I received Promoter of the Year Award from Brock University and The Wine Council of Ontario.
In 2012, I was named Ontario Local Food Ambassador from Ontario Farm Fresh Marketing Association.
You might find me speaking at a conference, cooking on television or teaching a hands-on cooking class, which I’m also happy to do (for money or for a good cause – let me know how I can help). But I am a food writer first and foremost. I write editorial, not advertorial, and my opinions are not for sale – so don’t even ask.
But do call or write, and let me know what you think. I have created all of the stories and my wonderfully talented husband had taken all of the photos that you see on this site and, editors note, they’re all for sale. I’m always happy to rewrite or take on a new writing or new book assignment, too. There are always too many great tales and never enough good homes for them, so let’s talk!
In the meantime if you want to know where I am, what I’m eating, what new recipe I’m testing in my studio or what I’m doing with the latest harvest, pick up a copy of Niagara this Week newspaper (Metroland) and read my column, Just A Taste. Alternately, go to www.niagarathisweek.com and google me. There are literally hundreds of my delicious stories complete with recipes waiting for you to feast your eyes on a favourite.
