Ok, so I realized that the idea for a twitter party came to me one day when I was testing a new recipe. The recipe I was working on wasn’t working out and I had no one to talk with. So I adjusted and fiddled, omitted and prayed. In the end it was much better, but I thought perhaps there are people out there that may want to help test some of these recipes – after all, I think it’s fun. So the recipe is pretty much untested. You just never know who you’ll meet at a local food cook-off. It took place at the Causeway Restaurant in Long Point Beach just outside of Port Rowan. This cute little roadhouse diner was celebrating local food with a community-cooking demo and Ruth Reimer won for her Lake Erie pickerel. They’re everywhere! Farm stands all across the region are loaded with flats of glistening, deep red strawberries that are nothing short of glorious! They’re ultra sweet and intense with bright berry flavour and soft red flesh that is as dense in colour and flavour on the inside as they are on the outside. What I love as much as eating cheese, is learning how to make it. I was elbow deep in a vat of whey, feeling the curds that floated around. I was making cheese with Shep Ysselstein in his brand new cheese factory in Woodstock, Gunn’s Hill Artisan Cheese. The pearl white mini curds tasted like creamy vanilla pudding – yum!
